  • Sectoral indices such as capital goods auto consumer durables and banking were all in the green by up to 0.47 per cent

According to market observers, hopes of a potential sovereign ratings upgrade by a USA ratings agency due later in the evening kept investors' sentiments buoyed. Expectations are that S&P too will raise the country's rating, a TOI report said quoting government sources. However, it slipped later.

The 30-share index traded higher by another 45.15 points, or 0.13 per cent, at 33,606.70. Positive Asian cues came as early pointers for the market.

Market breadth was positive with 1,055 advances against 564 declines.

Major gainers in the early trade are Bajaj Auto, Infosys, Cipla, Reliance Industries (RIL) and Kotak Mahindra Bank that trade higher in the range of 0.80% to 1.5%.

Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 222.21 crore while foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) purchased equities worth a net Rs 73.22 crore, as per provisional data.

On Thursday, the benchmark indices closed in the green for the sixth consecutive session on the back of healthy buying in IT and Teck (technology, media and entertainment) stocks as well as a strong rupee.

Among sectoral indices, BSE auto index, BSE IT index and BSE industrials index are among the top gainers.

Value buying in consumer durables, oil and gas as well as IT stocks lifted the key Indian equity indices on Friday although profit booking in metals sector capped the gains.
