Tesla revealed an all-new version of its Roadster sports vehicle that can go from a stop to 60 miles an hour in 1.9 seconds, a figure that would make it the fastest-accelerating production auto ever.
"It's not like any truck that you've ever driven", Tesla CEO Elon Musk hyped from the stage at Tesla's LA facility.
The new Roaster seats four and costs at least $200,000.
Musk said Tesla plans a worldwide network of solar-powered "megachargers" that could get the trucks back up to 400 miles of range after charging for only 30 minutes.
The Tesla Semi won't go into production until 2019, but Tesla founder Elon Musk said the lorry will be cheaper to run than a diesel alternative and will travel up to 500 miles at maximum weight at motorway speeds. Tesla was scheduled to manufacture 1,500 Model 3 cars in the third quarter of 2017, but has only made 260.

Musk hopes his truck will eventually replace diesel lorries on the road. "But charging can be a challenge and Tesla big rigs will cost far more than diesel trucks". The company is guaranteeing the Semi drivetrain will last to 1 million miles (1.6 million kilometres), equivalent to 40 trips around the globe.
"These are business people, not fans, and they will need convinced that this truck is better for their balance sheet than existing technology". The company, one of the largest supply chain solutions providers in North America, said that it had "placed a reservation to purchase multiple Tesla Semi tractors" though did not specify exact numbers.
