Iran rejects Macron call for talks on Iranian missiles

  • France's President Emmanuel Macron meets with Iranian president Hassan Rouhani in New York for the UN General Assembly

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi demanded that France remain "realistic, fair and farsighted" when it comes to matters of the Middle East and Gulf regions, according to a ministry statement released Saturday.

He said the ballistic missiles are defensive and unrelated to a nuclear agreement with world powers.

The United States backed the Saudi claim that the missile was supplied by Iran and urged the United Nations to hold Tehran accountable for the violation.

Under the JCPOA, Iran undertook to put limits on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions imposed against Tehran.

Trump and his administration have accused Iran of using the ballistic-missile program to further development of its nuclear weapons. Qassemi then noted that Iran is serious about its defense capabilities and views them as "non-negotiable".

"The missile that was intercepted by Saudi Arabia launched from Yemen, which obviously is an Iranian missile, shows precisely the strength of their" weapons program, Macron said on November 9.

"There are extremely strong concerns about Iran".

He called on the French government to adopt "tangible strategies" and compel its allies in the region to put an immediate end to war and bloodshed in Yemen with the objective of establishing peace and stability in the impoverished country.

The US says the missile fired at Saudi Arabia was supplied by Iran.

However unlikely it is that the Saudis would take direct military action against Lebanon, the report reveals the legitimate fears of Lebanese citizens who are increasingly aware that their country has fallen in the cross hairs of an unusual alliance between Saudi Arabia, Israel, and anti-Iranian interests which see Hezbollah and pro-Iranian proxies as the number one threat and scapegoat for all of the region's problems.

"Undoubtedly, this silence is interpreted as a green light by Saudi rulers to continue committing such anti-human crimes", underlined the Iranian diplomat.

The attack, the first of its kind, has shaken the kingdom, triggering frenzied accusations by Saudi leaders that the missile had been built in Iran.
