Social networking giant Facebook is asking its users to send their nude photographs so that they could block the images if they are later uploaded as revenge porn. Next, they will be asked to send the images to themselves on Messenger.

The Australian government's Office of the eSafety Commissioner announced it is joining a pilot program with Facebook to prevent intimate images of users from appearing against their will on the world's largest social network. This new method requires users to send their own nudes to themselves through the company's Messenger app.

Facebook would then create a digital footprint that could be used to identify the image if someone tried to post it.

Facebook will store these images for a short period of time before deleting them to ensure it is enforcing the policy correctly, the company said. Facebook will save those images and hash the photos.

Grant went on to say that anyone who is concerned their intimate images could end up being posted on Facebook would first need to file a report with her office, who would then share the report with Facebook.

So if hackers were able to access this information from Facebook, Thompson said all they would see is a bunch of numbers that would be meaningless.

During the trial, those anxious about their images being posted as revenge porn have to contact Australia's e-Safety commissioner through an online form, which may then suggest providing them to Facebook. The sender is then also recommended to delete the image.

"It would be like sending yourself your image in email, but obviously this is a much safer, secure end-to-end way of sending the image", Grant said. Consensual nude photos. You know what's cooler? "Otherwise, someone could upload the famous "tank man" photo, call it revenge porn, and censor it that way".

According to a 2016 study by the Data & Society Research Institute, One in 25 Americans has been a victim of threats or posts of almost nude or nude images without their permission.

Earlier this year, Facebook implemented a photo-matching tool in the United States to stop sharing of content tagged as revenge porn in the past.

Will Facebook in the USA get this technology?

That way, your photo will never show up on any of Facebook's servers.
