Google Search will soon show restaurant wait times

Just search for the restaurant on Google, open the business listing and scroll down to the Popular Times section where you'll see the estimated wait time at that very moment.

For the past two years, Google has offered a Popular Times feature that uses historical location-based data garnered from people's phones to determine when particular businesses, such as gyms and museums, are likely to be at their busiest or quietest. Similar to the busy times, a bar graph will show you the busiest times. A chart in it lists the busiest times at the restaurant while another click shows an estimated wait at a specific time. This could come in particularly handy for those bars and restaurants that don't take reservations (looking at you, Monk's). Now though, in a development we can't believe didn't happen sooner, Google will show you the wait times of almost a million sit-down restaurants around the world.

Google says this feature will be rolled out to almost a million sit-down restaurants around the world. We already liked being able to check for the most popular times of day for restaurants and retailers; it's also rather helpful to know how long you might expect to spend at a place, too. And up next, says Google: Grocery stores.
