  • Weird iOS Bug Replaces "I" With "A[?]" in Text Messages

"Don't download iOS 11.1 unless you want to see the letter "I" as "[?]".

Apple's newest update to the software for its iPhones and iPads, iOS 11.1, has only been out for a few days, but users are already reporting a serious problem. Apple, for its part, has recognized that this bug exists, but so far, an official patch hasn't been pushed to affected users.

Reddit user TheCravin reported the bug and said that Apple's predictive keyboard feature suggests a random character like 'A, ' '#,' or '!' followed by a '[?]' symbol.

Go to Settings General Keyboard Text Replacement.

For Phrase, users are told to type an upper-case "I", and for shortcut they type a lower-case "i". It didn't click for me at first, but when I tried to copy and paste the content of the tweet, my paste fixed it and just showed the letter "I".

Apple is introducing a new App Store pricing feature for developers starting with iOS 11.2.

The Guardian reports that the issue stems from the iPhone's predicative-text function on their keyboards with the function reading the letter "i" and auto-correcting it to the question mark in the box. The switch has impacted users on iOS 10 and 11. In the meantime, Apple has issued a temporary workaround that you can enable in settings. The problem appears to stem from how the keyboard's predictive-text function reads the capital letter "i", according to the Guardian.

Apple has not respond to a CNN request for comment.

The glitch appears to have become widespread following the launch of the new iPhone X on Friday. The bandaid lets users replace a capital "I" with a lowercase "i" - which will look odd, but not as odd as the freakish exclamation point-question mark combo.
