  • Kevin Spacey's Emmy honour rescinded following sexual assault claim

Hours after publication of the interview, Spacey apologised to Rapp on Twitter, though he said he did not remember the incident in question.

The news comes after Netflix announced that its flagship series House of Cards, which stars Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright in the leading roles, will end after its upcoming sixth season.

Although the company said a decision on the future of the show was made during the summer, it is thought that recent allegations against the show's star Spacey has seemingly put the final nail in the coffin in regards to the show's future. This is a breaking story.

The reaction to that particular "apology" statement from Spacey was met with widespread scorn by Hollywood, with many rightly calling out his conflation of being gay (which he called a choice) with pedophilia.

The streamer and Media Rights Capital, producers of the series, released a joint statement on Monday in response to the allegations against Spacey, saying they were "deeply troubled". But Netflix had already chose to end the show and was pursuing a spinoff.

Lord Michael Dobbs, creator of the original United Kingdom series House of Cards, says he is "devastated" and "heartbroken" with the way in which the Netflix political drama is coming to an end.

"I'm beyond horrified to hear his story", Spacey wrote.

A leading journalist has said Kevin Spacey's coming out statement would not have been celebrated by LGBT people, because it played into a "vicious trope" of gay people being child abusers and paedophiles.

Actor Anthony Rapp accused the 58-year-old of historical harassment at a party at his apartment 30 years ago, when Rapp was just 14 years old.

"House of Cards" has been made in the Baltimore area throughout its run, filming in locations such as the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, the Baltimore Museum of Art and The Baltimore Sun.

"During the time I worked with Kevin Spacey on 'House of Cards, ' I neither witnessed nor was aware of any inappropriate behavior on set or off", he said.

He went on to state: 'That said, I take reports of such behavior seriously and this is no exception.
