Police said that a 12-year-old boy jumped from an overpass in Fairfax, Virginia, and fell onto a auto, killing a driver.

A 12-year-old boy who jumped off a northern Virginia overpass on Saturday afternoon in an apparent suicide attempt took a life, but it wasn't his own. According to WJLA, her friend was in the passenger seat and, when the boy crashed through the windshield, had to gain control of the steering wheel and steered it off the interstate. He was not injured in the incident.

While the boy's jump left Harris "incapacitated", he survived and was being treated for life-threatening injuries at Inova Fairfax Hospital.

The victim was identified as 22-year-old Marisa Harris, of Olney, a graduate student at Marymount University studying clinical mental health counseling. They said she had a gift for working with children with severe behavioral problems.

According to the deceased woman's mother, Marisa had just finished her first semester as a grad student at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia.

Marisa Harris (left and right), 22, died when a 12-year-old boy threw himself off an overpass onto her vehicle in Virginia on Saturday. Her father, Patrick Harris, said that she was an outgoing person and had a fondness for the outdoors, particularly hiking. She was a clinical counseling student who would have helped the child if she had the chance, her mother told NBC 4 News Washington.

As for her passion in helping children, her loved ones said it ran in the family as Marisa came from a "long line of psychologists". She was "caring, compassionate and genuine", Jackson-Cherry said. "I've been hearing from her classmates all day".
