  • DUAL CITIZEN Senator Matt Canavan's will respect the High Court's decision

On Friday afternoon, the High Court ruled Joyce is no longer a Member of Parliament.

A somewhat shell-shocked Barnaby Joyce has faced the press after learning the High Court has disqualified him from Parliament for being a dual citizen. "I'd like to offer my support to senator Fiona Nash".

Here's what he said to the media in his home town of Tamworth, directly after the High Court decision.

Mr Joyce fired a shot against those providing "off the record" comments about the Nationals.

Mr Joyce gestured at the New England countryside around him.

Mr Joyce said it was wrong to claim the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority move could be exposed to legal challenge, as it was a cabinet decision signed off by the finance minister.

'We won the last election because the National Party didn't go backwards, we actually went forwards, we held all our seats and won one (more),' he told ABC radio on Monday.

The former deputy prime minister now must fight a by-election for his seat of New England on December 2.

Australia's conservative government has lost its majority after the deputy prime minister was declared ineligible for parliament.

However, constitutional expert George Williams has said there was a risk that some of decisions could be open to challenge, but it would only be those made after Mr Joyce's bombshell announcement in August that he might be a New Zealand citizen.

Independent MP Cathy McGowan and NXT MP Rebekha Sharkie have indicated they will back the government in a no-confidence motion.
