Antonio Conte: I want to return to Italy 'before long'

  • Chelsea boss Conte For sure I will return to Italy

English football champions Chelsea's Italian manager Antonio Conte has admitted he misses his home and will not spend the rest of his coaching career overseas.

Despite being unsure what the future holds, the former Juventus and Italian national team boss ruled out working in China.

"Italy is my country so, once I've had a good, learning experience, I will return to Italy", Conte told RAI Radio 1.

"It's not in my head to stay overseas for too long".

And Conte hinted a move to the San Siro could be next for him, telling Radio Anch'io Sport: "I have a longing for Italy, that's beyond any doubt".

"I don't know when, but I will return".

"Foreseeing the future is always hard, ours is the most precarious work. Let's just say that a coach is a temporary worker", The Italian remarked.

The Blues boss aimed a jibe at English managers, saying: "Are we better than the English?" I miss Italy, that's a fact. Today you are here, tomorrow you can be somewhere else.

"I have the will to finish a project, and then look for the right continuation of that".

"But I would also like to change roles and maybe become a sporting director in the future". Perhaps I'll work as a director of football. There are practically no English managers in the Premier League.

Chelsea face Atletico Madrid in their second Champions League fixture of the season on Wednesday with Conte not yet wanting to see beyond a group stage which also includes Serie A side Roma.

Chelsea lie third in the Premier League - three points behind leaders Manchester City, who they welcome to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
