  • China warns India of 'serious consequences' over border

Geng said that India talks of maintaining peace at the border but "more than one month after the incursion, 48 Indian border troops and one bulldozer still illegally remained in the Chinese territory, instead, it flagrantly dispatched armed forces carrying equipment to illegally cross the boundary to obstruct China's road building".

Hu added that the "Chinese side will inform the Indian foreign ministry before its operation", but gave no source for his claims.

The tone of the Chinese government and its media has become shriller over the past few days, with its Defence Ministry telling India not to test its patience.

After being given the cold shoulder by the U.S., and Bhutan refusing to compromise its alliance with India, China has gone to Nepal to seek support for its position on the standoff over the Doklam tri-junction near Sikkim.

"We have been saying it loud and clear, both to China and to the worldwide environment, that India is a peace loving country".

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to visit China early in September for a summit of BRICS leaders. "But, if a war spreads, the PLA is perfectly capable of annihilating all Indian troops in the border region".

The editorial further said, "Modi government's hard line stance is sustained by neither laws nor strength. This administration is recklessly breaking global norms and jeopardizing India's national pride and peaceful development", the article said.

"Its move is irresponsible to regional security and is gambling against India's destiny and its people's well-being".

"The Modi government should stop lying to its people that 'India in 2017 is different from India in 1962.' The gap in national strength between the two countries is the largest in the past 50 years".

With the growing tension between India and China, the traders across the country are boycotting Chinese products and also urging the public to not purchase them.

The spokesman also referred to a June 30 statement on India being in consultation with Bhutan on this matter.

"India, which has stirred up the incident, should bear all the consequences".

The paper said the People's Liberation Army had been moving for the last one month. If the Modi government takes China's goodwill for weakness, its recklessness will only lead to devastation.

India has said Beijing's action to "unilaterally determine tri-junction points" violated a 2012 India-China pact which says the boundary would be decided by consulting all the concerned parties.

They have said that both sides' diplomats have quietly engaged to try to keep the stand-off from escalating, and that India's ambassador to Beijing is leading the effort to find a way for both sides to back down without loss of face. "So, a solution will definitely emerge if we engage in dialogue on bilateral relations", Swaraj said in Rajya Sabha on Friday, August 4.

"The government remains prepared for its responsibilities to ensure the security of its citizens and territory, but Sushma Swaraj yesterday said that war is not the answer", MEA official spokesperson Gopal Baglay said while addressing a press conference in the national capital.

Beijing sees a clear demarcation of borders according to the 1890 treaty-claiming 89 sq km in the Doklam plateau south of where India sees the China-Bhutan border-but Delhi thinks Beijing is mistaken.
