The Associated Press news agency says he has spent 13 out of 28 weekends away from Washington, splitting his time mainly between the golf club and his property in Palm Beach, Florida.

It confirms that, despite Trump's faint grasp of worldwide affairs, he blithely made calls to crucial allies without preparation and the support of the US State Department, the world's largest diplomatic machine, now lying idle a few blocks from the Oval Office. We will update this post with more photos as they are available, and share more photos from Trump's vacation over the next 17 days.

There's bigger news than what President Trump may or may not have said in calls to the leaders of Mexico and Australia.

Trump will embark on a 17-day getaway to his 500-acre private golf club off Lamington Road in Bedminster, New Jersey.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Lindsay Walters told reporters that the South Portico steps on the South Lawn will also be repaired. Renovations typically happen in August, but this is far more extensive than normal.

Aides and media members have seen rodents near the White House in recent years - though rats are a common fixture in downtown Washington, D.C.

Although the HVAC systems are 27 years old, they are constantly running. The carpet replacement will cost $1.17 million and costs are "in line, or under, ... past three prior administrations", according to the General Service Administration spokesperson.

Despite his comments, Trump has taken considerably more time off than Obama in their respective first seven months in office.

No one was allowed to stay at the White House during the renovations, Town & Country reported. Because we know Trump puts himself, his ego and his interests ahead of everything and will do nearly anything to avoid looking bad, he might just decide to take his ball and go home. Today, as critics point out, Mr Trump's 17-day holiday is almost twice as long as the one Mr Obama took in August during his first year.

You can add presidential transcripts to the list of things that have experienced a "Trump bump".

During the 2016 campaign, Trump repeatedly promised that he would refuse to take vacation in order to keep doing the work of the American public. Known as a "memorandum of conversation", such documents are commonly circulated to White House staff and senior policymakers.

Those close to Trump say time will tell whether Kelly can succeed.

Additionally, this fascinating study published in 2010 in the journal Applied Research in the Quality of Life found that the most happiness derived from a vacation comes from planning the vacation.

It seems the President has since had a change of heart.

If Obama vacationed, Trump wouldn't. That includes the President's daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, the administration has clarified. And there's been not only increased willingness to use the legal tools that he has at hand, but there's also extraordinary technological abilities to track people's interactions, you know, with metadata in such a way that you don't have to tail somebody to figure out what park bench they're getting information on during lunchtime.
