Chelsea are interested in signing Benjamin Mendy from Monaco this summer but face competition from Manchester City, according to Kaveh Solhekol.

His fee would eclipse the initial £45m paid by City for right-back Kyle Walker earlier this month and the £47.5m deal for centre-back John Stones last summer.

Manchester City will complete the signings of full backs Benjamin Mendy and Danilo on Sunday for a combined £76 million.

While at Monaco, Mendy played 34 times for the club and helped them to win their first Ligue 1 title in 17 years.

When both deals are officially confirmed it will take City's spending on full-backs this summer to around £123m after they signed England worldwide Kyle Walker from Tottenham.

Reports in England have suggested that manager Pep Guardiola is hoping to tie up a deal for the left-back before next week, with City said to be ready to pay £50million for his services.

Mendy is set to become City's fourth signing of the summer and take their spending up to around £175m, following Walker, goalkeeper Ederson and former Monaco teammate Bernardo Silva to the Etihad Stadium.

"They are young players, with the next three, four, five years in mind", the Spaniard added.

Guardiola is also close to bringing in Real Madrid right-back Danilo after jumping ahead of Chelsea in the race for the Brazil worldwide.
