Fourth yellow jersey in touching distance for Froome

The number of stages where Edvald Boasson Hagen placed second at this Tour, including an agonizingly close photo-finish on Stage 7, before he finally won Stage 19, the longest of this Tour, on Friday.

Froome, Bardet and Uran were in the large group finishing about 10 minutes later.

But he is likely to be more anxious about losing second place to Colombia's Rigoberto Uran, who is only six seconds behind him.

The Bora-Hansgrohe rider is now 75th in the general classification, after finishing 66th in the 16th stage between Le Puy-en-Velay and Romans-sur-Isere.

It's been an interesting Tour de France for cycling fans - Mark Cavendish was forced to pull out after breaking his shoulder, a controversial crash saw Slovak Peter Sagan kicked out of the competition, and Chris Froome looks to be heading for yet another victory.

Froome is targeting his first stage victory on the 2017 Tour in Marseille, but says he will "have no regrets" if he rides into Paris wearing the yellow jersey without winning a stage.

Froome had emerged from two gruelling days in the Alps with a 23-second lead over Bardet and 29 on Rigoberto Uran and was never going to take any chances with Paris in sight.

Bodnar, taken in the straight line final of Pau (stage 11) after a long break, won for the first time in the Tour. Boasson Hagen pulled away from an eight-rider group in the last two miles and crossed five seconds ahead of German Nikias Arndt.

Three-times Tour champion Greg LeMond backed up Froome's analysis. Frenchman Romain Bardet struggled in the heat and dropped to third overall, two minutes, 20 seconds behind Froome.

Phinney, a former pursuit specialist whose career was nearly ended by a crash three years ago, has been competing in his first Tour this month. "But it feels incredible to finish this one off".

Since Bradley Wiggins became the first British victor of the most famous race in road cycling in 2012, Froome has established himself as the face of a period of dominance for Team Sky.

Chris Froome retains to lead the yellow jersey after his Sky team finished safely in the peloton.

We had a tough start at the Tour this year and this victory goes also to Peter [Sagan] and Rafal [Majka].

"It's an wonderful feeling", Froome said afterward.

"I was in poor health and I paid for it, in cash", Bardet said after Saturday's Stage 20, adding that he had begun feeling poorly after the last stage in the Alps, according to the Associated Press.

The 32-year-old would have known at that point his fourth Tour, and third in a row, was in the bag as Colombian Uran had, moments before, run wide on one of the final corners, touching the barriers and losing all momentum.
