Another intriguing and unforeseen development in the Yankees' first base equation is the recent news that NY had shipped out lefty rookie reliever Tyler Webb in exchange for Brewers first base prospect Garrett Cooper, who's been one of the hottest hitters in Triple-A this year. While Cooper has spent time in both the outfield and first base in the minors, he projects as a full-time first baseman in the majors, thanks to his size (6-foot-6, 230 pounds) and his power profile, but he was blocked by Eric Thames and Jesus Aguilar in Milwaukee.

Joel Sherman reports that 1B/OF prospect Garrett Cooper will be heading to NY to complete the deal. The 26-year-old was first called up to Triple-A in 2014, and has a 3.24 ERA in Triple-A Scranton this season.

The Brewers have been searching for relief help, and get an interesting prospect who is controllable for the near future.

Making his major-league debut three weeks ago, he pitched six less-impressive innings for the Yankees, going 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP, striking out five and walking four.

The lefty who will turn 27 next week was a 10th round pick in 2013.

The Brewers will decide before they return to action tomorrow night whether to add Webb to their bullpen or assign him to Colorado Springs. The 26-year-old is batting.366/.428/.652 in 75 games this year with 17 home runs and 82 RBIs. NY recently cut Chris Carter, Matt Holliday is on the 10-day disabled list and Ji-Man Choi has had to share time at first base with backup catcher Austin Romine.
