  • Kids die after mom leaves them in hot car to teach them a lesson police┬ásay Cynthia Marie Randolph

Cynthia Marie Randolph, 24, was arrested Friday on two counts of causing injury to a child. Even though, my mom could be completely nuts, she would never try to teach my brother and I a lesson by leaving us defenseless in a hot locked auto.

Authorities also claim that Randolph admits to leaving her children behind in the vehicle, while she smoked marijuana and passed out for a few hours.

In a story June 23 about a woman charged in the deaths of her two children found inside a hot vehicle, The Associated Press reported an incorrect age for her.

Parker County Sheriff's Capt. Mark Arnett told CNN that according to the mother, the children were playing in a back room of their home when they disappeared.

Authorities were called to the home at about 4 p.m. when the mother said she had discovered them unresponsive in the vehicle.

Randolph was arrested after several subsequent interviews and an extensive investigation conducted by sheriff's investigators with the assistance of the Texas Rangers, the release said.

Randolph initially told cops she found two-year-old Juliet and 16-month-old Cavanaugh passed out in the locked vehicle outside their home near Lake Weatherford, so she smashed the window to get them out. Her bond has not been set. The children died after spending several hours in the vehicle. A sheriff's spokeswoman did not immediately return a call Saturday afternoon, and jail records do not list an attorney for Randolph.

In 2017 alone, 13 children have died from being locked inside cars and suffering heat stroke, according to San Jose State University professor Jan Null. The Tarrant County medical examiner's website identified the children as Juliet and Cavanaugh Ramirez.

A 16-month-old boy was also left in the vehicle, which likely reached a temperature of nearly 100 degrees while both children were inside.

The Dallas News reported that Randolph called Parker County deputies out to her house "in the 200 block of Rambling Loop" on May 26 following the death of her two children.
