- The FBI and other law enforcement officials are planning to detail what happened when a gunman shot a top House Republican and four other people on a northern Virginia baseball field. The Capitol Police officers were present because Scalise is a member of the congressional leadership. Franks added that "it's clear that (the shooting) was premeditated", but he declined to confirm the existence of a possible list, citing the ongoing investigation.

The Daily Caller said it had confirmed three of the names: Brooks, South Carolina Congressman Jeff Duncan and Arizona Congressman Trent Franks.

It's still unclear if the names on the list - which includes Republican Reps.

A spokeswoman for Capitol Police did not return CNN's request for comment. Both Duncan and Brooks attended Wednesday's baseball practice. The shooting was allegedly carried out by James T. Hodgkinson, who was later killed by police.

Scalise took a bullet from a high-powered rifle in the hip, causing extensive injuries.

When Scalise arrived at MedStar Washington Hospital after the shooting, the doctor who treated him said Scalise was in shock from blood loss and was on the brink of death.

Scalise underwent immediate surgery and an additional procedure to stop bleeding.

Investigators believed Hodgkinson, 66, did not have any outside support and acted on his own. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), had a deep hatred of Republicans and fired 50-100 shots. A Washington Post reporter said that Hodgkinson's Facebook page was "an extended screed against Trump".
