  • A production in New York’s Central Park has become a national flashpoint for its depiction of the stabbing assassination of its Trump-like title character

Commotion erupted briefly Friday night in New York City's Central Park as a protester stormed an outdoor stage during the assassination scene of Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar", while another shouted from the audience, calling the crowd watching the provocative play "Nazis". She was charged with disorderly conduct and trespassing, but was unremorseful after the incident.

Filming her was Jack Posobiec, a former Rebel employee, who screamed at the crowed, "You're all Nazis like Joseph Goebbels!". You are all inciting terrorists!

The play continued where it left off after both protesters were escorted from the theater space. Set in the modern-day, this Caesar is blond, wears a blazer with a red tie, and has a wife with an Eastern European accent.

Delta and Bank of America have pulled their sponsorships of the Public Theater, citing the "Julius Caesar" production. During the actual trials, twenty people in colonial MA accused of being sorcerers were hung, not burned at the stake. Posobiec has yet to clarify if he has actually read The Crucible or understands its subject.

In a statement issued after the play, director Oskar Eustis said: "Free speech for all, but let's not stop the show".

Loomer likened the play to the shooting of Congressman Steve Scalise.

She was released but asked to appear in court to respond to the charges at a later date.

Certain segments of the Right have been stirred by news reports of this Caesar, in which the assassinated Roman emporer has been recast as a Trump figure. The staff removed the protesters peacefully, and the show resumed with the line 'Liberty! "Anybody who watches this play tonight-and I'm sorry there's going to be a couple of spoiler alerts here-will know that neither Shakespeare nor the Public Theater could possibly advocate violence as a solution to political problems, and certainly not assassination". "This play, on the contrary, warns about what happens when you try to preserve democracy by nondemocratic means, and again, spoiler alert, it doesn't end up too good".

Loomer and Posobiec did receive support from numerous conservatives online, however, including controversial InfoWars host Alex Jones.

Loomer ― a reporter with The Rebel Media, a far-right Canadian outlet that started a "Free Laura" campaign Friday evening ― and Posobiec held a Twitter press conference after they were taken to the Central Park Precinct.
