Potcoin sponsoring Rodman's North Korea trip

  • Report: Jong-nam had US$120000 in cash when murdered

This photo carried by North Korea's main newspaper Rodong Sinmun on January 9, 2014, shows North Korean leader Kim Jong-un (2nd from L) and former US basketball player Dennis Rodman (R) watching a goodwill game held in Pyongyang.

Rodman has said he is trying to "accomplish" something both he and President Trump need through this visit. The trip extends Rodman's surprising relationship with 30-something North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who took power in 2011 but has yet to meet a more high-profile foreigner than the heavily tattooed former National Basketball Association bad boy. North Korea on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, is expecting another visit by Rodman, who has made several trips to the country but has been criticized for insensitive comments and for regaling leader Kim Jong Un with "Happy Birthday" in 2014.

Rodman has visited North Korea at least four times and is one of the only Americans to have met current North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.

A foreign ministry official who spoke to The Associated Press in Pyongyang confirmed that Rodman was expected to arrive Tuesday but could not provide details.

At the time of his visit, an American citizen, Kenneth Bae, was being held by North Korea on charges that he had planned an operation to topple North Korea's government with religious activities.

"But one thing we know is that Trump is transactional", said one person who works on North Korea, speaking on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the discussions. North Korea called the system a provocation that it says is aimed at bolstering US military hegemony in the region.

The drone was believed to have crashed because it ran short of fuel while returning to North Korea.

When Rodman visited the North in February 2013 with the Harlem Globetrotters, an exhibition basketball team, Kim was said to have personally gifted him with a present that said, "For our friendship".

Trump called Rodman "smart" for his 2013 trip to North Korea, Politico reported at the time. Rodman was a cast member on two seasons of Trump's TV reality show "Celebrity Apprentice". But Trump fired Rodman for spelling his wife Melania's name wrong. As it is, with 16 ballistic missile launches this year, North Korea is inching closer to perfecting an ICBM that would threaten millions of lives in the United States.

Madeleine Albright, the US Secretary of State under President Bill Clinton, brought the older Kim a basketball autographed by Michael Jordan during a visit in 2000.

"I was trying to get this game going and get everything going in North Korea", Rodman told the AP then.

He has previously described his visits - including one in 2013 with the Harlem Globetrotters - as "basketball diplomacy" but has been roundly criticised for failing to raise human rights issues or the plight of U.S. missionary Kenneth Bae, who was detained at the time.
